Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.
